You can get a one month insurance on it and it won't break the bank, even with a drink driving conviction.

If you can't afford the insurance, don't buy the bike.
Riding without is not the way to go and is illegal.
Perhaps get a less powerful bike or pay monthly installments for your insurance.
BTW Police love pulling young riders. Don't risk it!

Hmmm…. Odd….
I did a quote on Progressive Insurance and I did a 600cc bike (so as every bike I thought I would get, ended up getting a 125cc and paid $200.00 for a year) and it basically said the same price and I'm 18 yo and a beginner… Around $300.00 but it would defiinitely go up if you are going to finalize the deal.
Factors are:
1.) Bike Condition (New, Used, Year, Salvaged, Mileage, History, Modification)
2.) Rider condition (Accidents, Tickets, Basically your history… more importantly the experience)
3.) Location (Northern part of US would be more cheaper than riding in Florida, California, Texas….)
4.) Type of Insurance (Full coverage, part coverage)
So you probably live in a place somewhere in the South with a bike that is pretty darn new. You might have a perfect record but that's a different story(would give you a small amount of discount).
You will find that progressive or geico do not sell in Mass. Remember we are not a competitive state for ins, cars or bikes-that said my honda 750 shadow ace cost about 450 for the full year loaded. I will place the ins to the minumum level around Nov to April. It will end up about 2 or 250…also it depends on engine size and type-grater than 650 more than less than–sport bike more than cruiser….

No, you don't.
You need either a Certificate of Conformity or an M.S.V.A. certificate. If you do not have either of those, the bike cannot be registered in the U.K.

Why?
Tax is only payable on items imported from outside the E.U. Since Britain and Germany are in the E.U., tax will have already been paid.
