General advice on motorbike insurance quote?

Melie asked:

Im looing at trading my honda hornet 600 in soon and getting a GSXR-600. i been doing a few insurance quotes with tesco compare and confused.com cause they say they search bennetts, cia carol nash etc but the cheapest one coming up is a company called simply insurance. all the rest want about 1400-3000k but this insurance company wants 850 fully comp with 1 years no claims. I have had a look at the company and they are regulated by the FSA. They have been running for approx 10-15 years and this company was the cheapest on both websites. i would like any views into what you think. i have also looked at the policy and spoken to them and it has everything i want like any insurance policy they only cover the bike for the market value if anything was to happen to it etc etc. General advice would be great.

carquotes.sinfree.net - check this one. As I remember they have lowest car insurance rates for teens and young drivers.

Locks don't stop real bike thieves, alarm systems might. Locks won't lower your insurance that I ever heard of. A real bike thief pulls a trailer up next to your bike and a couple guys just push the bike over so it lands in the trailer. Gone in about 10 seconds. No problem. Being careful where you park will do more to discourage thieves than a lock. Go ahead and get a lock too if you want.

You will not get a accurate figure without giving the details. If it is to be for business use and you are riding on a provisional then expect to pay at least £1000 if you can find somewhere to insure you at all.

Most insurance companies base their rates on ability to pay, so they want to run your credit record. That's one explanation for low rates in areas where you can see for yourself that most residence are horrible drivers. There are a few companies that only base their rates on your actual driving record, age and model of vehicle. If you go to Cure Auto Insurance, drivewell.com, for example, they'll only ask about your driving record. I've only recently started seeing ads & checked out this company, so I don't know if there across the Atlantic yet.

In any case, I have credit, so I know for a fact the rate will be high if they ask for my Social(ist) (In)security number, income, etc. And I don't give my real name on the quote, either. Since I've been shopping for insurance (it's expiring in a few weeks), and getting online quotes, I actually got a postcard for "Claude Kaddidlehopper" :-D
